This exciting annual event is a great way to support Mississippi retail shopping with more than 100 local merchants, all inside the comfort of the new Trade Mart.

We believe it’s important to support local Mississippi retail businesses by shopping with them whenever we can! It’s why you see #shopinthesip on our social media posts, and a big reason why we LOVE to travel the Magnolia State, bringing awareness to the fabulous finds available right here in Mississippi. The only problem is you can only visit one town at a time. Wouldn’t it be great if you could shop with stores from all over the state in one location? Well for one weekend every year, you CAN!

The Mercantile Mississippi retail show is happening April 30-May 1 at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson.

This annual shopping event, created and hosted by Mississippi Magazine, debuted in 2017 as a celebration of Magnolia State shopping. After a COVID-forced cancellation last year, “The Mercantile” is back, and ready to kick off their first show in the shiny new Trade Mart! At the 2019 show, we walked away with clothing, shoes, jewelry, home decor items, and the best Mississippi-made dip mixes and snacks. We had less in our wallets when we left, but SO worth it—a weekend of fabulous shopping while supporting Mississippi businesses! The best part? We shopped with SO many different Magnolia State retailers, all in the same building!

Retailers from every region of the state will be selling merchandise, so the show also brings awareness to its shoppers about those stores’ towns and all there is to offer when you take the time to explore Mississippi. When you chat with the store owners, it really hits home that you are shopping with your friends and neighbors. That’s more important than ever as businesses recover from the train wreck that was 2020. They appreciate it so much. Here is the full list of merchants as of the time this post was published:

There are two fun ticketed side events this year. On Friday at 10 a.m., Julia Putt of Fresh Cut Catering and Floral will serve up a delicious brunch while she shares a floral demonstration. On Saturday at 10 am., Patty Roper of Mississippi Magazine will host a catered tea and share some of her easy entertaining how-tos. Tickets for each of these events are only $10. You can get them HERE.

And when you need to rest your legs for a bit from all the shopping, you can have a seat in the stage area to enjoy some great entertainment that is included with your general admission ticket. There’s something for everyone, as you can see:

Hip in the will be there taking photos and bringing you stories over on Instagram, including a sneak peek during booth set up of all the great items you can snag! Full disclosure, Jane and I used to be a part of the Mississippi Magazine team that worked on the inaugural show, and we can assure you that you’ll be so glad you came! General admission to the show is only $10 ($5 for senior citizens), and gets you in on BOTH days! You can pre-order online HERE, but show tickets are also available at the door. If you have the March/April issue of the magazine, guess what? You have a free ticket inside!

Oh! Almost forgot! We have partnered with Mississippi Magazine and Jane’s Southern Shine blog on a GREAT GIVEAWAY over on Instagram that starts today! (Friday, the 9th) You could win one of two prize packages: two tickets to the show, two tickets to one of the side events, and a $200 Visa gift card to shop there at the show!
